One Blinn student got some well-deserved recognition for his service to the US.

Sergeant Al Ghongkedze is a sophomore liberal arts major, and received the Marine Corps Commandant's Trophy for leadership, academics and physical fitness at a ceremony on campus.

Ghongkedze was first in his class at a summer training session in Quantico, Virginia earlier this year.

The native of Cameroon received the trophy from retired Major General Jack Davis. The trophy will remain on campus for the next year.

Friday also marks the 231st birthday of the US Marine Corps, which was also honored at a ceremony at Blinn.
