After 1 million votes were cast, the people of Texas have made their choice on a new license plate.
The winning design called the "Lone Star State" received over 450,000 votes.
Workers at TX-DOT affectionately refer to it as "The People's Plate." A new digital manufacturing process will eliminate the use of 484 gallons of paint thinners and 396 gallons of ink used in the old process. The new plates are made at the state prison factory in Huntsville.
As the new plates are being distributed to tax assessor offices across the state, drivers who have received a new Texas Driver's License may need to check with Department of Public Safety.
A "worm" that infected the DPS's computers ruined five days worth of driver's license production.
That resulted in a backlog of applications and at least a month delay for citizens to get driver's license renewals.

What plates? I bought auto on 05/15/09 and now on 06/17/09 still haven't seen title and/or plates!
The one with the most votes - WINS
450,000 people didn't think it was ugly. Nothing prettier to me than the Texas flag or a map of Texas. I thought the ugliest one was the one with the space ship on it.
