It's not the summer vacation most teens dream about. But this group belonging to United Methodist churches from Tomball to Humble isn't your typical teen vacationers.

Over the week, 70 campers are doing what they can to make a difference. From painting houses to building ramps, the annual trip helps those who can't make home improvements on their own.

"I like it. There's nothing I'd rather do then come out and help others," said camper Harry Bradford of Magnolia.

"It takes out part of your summer, but you're learning and you're growing as a person. You walk away from here with something, you've gained something. You feel full," said Emily Dixon, a camper from Tomball.

But this isn't a free trip. Students pay their way in order to lend a helping hand. That money goes to purchasing supplies for the homes. To the campers, it's money well spent.

"This is better than what I could be doing because I learn from it and I get to know other people," said Bradford.

"All we are doing is slapping on paint, slapping on windows, and a new door. They love it! They act like we saved their life," said Dixon.

To anonymous that was never appreciated for your efforts... I'm sorry that no one ever gave you the recognition that you deserved... but I'm not sorry that these young people have been recognized for their efforts. Way to go kids and keep up the good work.

Thank you KBTX for spotlighting these great kids being the hands and feet of Jesus. We are blessed to have them in our community this week. Keep up the good reporting. I love to hear the "good stuff".

Sommerville is the last place a teen needs to be hanging out, the drugs and crime there are out of control. Parents please keep your child from going to this place, you can buy a stolen item or drugs on just about any corner.
