Black Friday started on Thursday for some retailers, including a few big ones who offered consumers Thanksgiving Day hours to get a jump on the holiday shopping season.

BJ's Wholesale Club, Wal-Mart Supercenters and Comp-USA opened their doors Thanksgiving Day.

In South Carolina, hundreds of people lined up at the new Tanger Outlet in North Charleston awaiting a midnight opening. South Carolina is sweetening the pot by offering a holiday from state sales tax on almost all goods.

In Arkansas, Laurie Field and her father were first in line at Best Buy, 16 hours before opening. The teen says, "My mom is at home, taking a nap. She thinks that my dad and I are nuts."

In Massachusetts, some stores bucked state blue laws to open Thursday. In the words of Comp-USA shopper Mary Jo Kane, "I'm poor, but I love stuff."
