Shuttle to Launch Aggie and Longhorn Satellite

By  |

The space race between the two superpowers ended when the United States landed a man on the moon. But now a new space race maybe emerging between two other foes; Texas A&M and UT. This Saturday when the Space Shuttle Endeavor blasts off, satellites from the two Big 12 rivals will go up with it.

AggieSat2 and BEVO-1 will test a GPS satellite receiver that NASA built.
Both spacecraft are small, really small. They are about 7 pounds each and are know as "Picosatellites". Each is made by students from the respective schools.

Saturday's launch is just one of four planned over the next few years.
