Several changes are being proposed in the City of Bryan's animal control ordinance. One of the items under the ordinance would dispose animals that have been impounded for 72 hours.
A hot button issue on the ordinance (click here to read the proposal) would also limit the number of animals living at a residence to no more than any combination of four dogs and cats, that are three months of age or older.
One part of the ordinance thats creating a lot of confusion is animal control officers authority to enter your property Stating how it would give officers the power to enter your home or backyard without a warrant. Here's a look at that section in the ordinance:
(c) Inspection; power to enter premises. It shall be a condition of issuance of any permit provided herein that the permitting for an animal establishment that the licensing authority shall be permitted to inspect any and all animals and the premises where such animals are kept at any reasonable time during normal business hours. Where a permit is revoked for any cause, or pending appeal or any such action, the licensing permitting authority shall have power of entry on the premises and into all areas where animals are being kept.
Officials with the city of Bryan, say however, they can enter your yard to chase animals, but will not enter your home to inspect those premises where animals are kept.
Two public meetings have been scheduled for June 22nd at Rudder High School at 6:30 p.m. and June 24th at Neal Elementary School at 6:30 p.m.

Most pet owners who have 4-5 animals pay for the food and keep up with the vaccinations out of their own pockets. Can you say the same for a home with 4-5 children? I doubt it! There are lots of homes in Bryan that are on State assistance to feed their kids but you don't see anyone trying to pass an ordinance telling them they won't get that check every month if they have too many kids. Give ma a break! I don't care if they have 2 legs or 4, if you can afford them and take care of them you should be able to have them.
NO to the "disposal" in 3 days. NO to the limit on number of animals. HELL NO to the power to enter an individuals property. Animal control should respond to dangerous or sick animals and reports of abuse, provide an animal shelter not animal death row, and, otherwise, mind their own business!
So...our officers don't have anything better to do count hounds? Really? I bet they think they have better things to do.
