Sanjuana Mota has been living in the 1400 block of east William J. Bryan Parkway for twenty years. She says accidents are as common as traffic on the busy street. Mota wasn't home when a car crashed into a home Saturday on the corner of the intersection, and Robert Luna says he's not surprised the accident happened. He says within the past two years, he can recall at least two incidents that ended with a vehicle crashed into the same home.

"Sometimes they don't even stop. Maybe they don't see the stop sign, so they just keep going," says Bryan resident, Robert Luna.

There are stop signs on either side of N Coulter Drive, meaning drivers have to yield to oncoming traffic on William J. Bryan. The City of Bryan is considering traffic counts and accident history at the intersection. It says making it a four way stop may not be the safest solution.

"If you put a signal in a place especially in a location where there's very limited site distance, it might create more problems," says Dale Picha, City of Bryan Director of Traffic and Transportation.

Esther Jossa is most concerned about the safety of children who may cross the busy intersection to get to Haswell Pool and Haswell Park. She says their safety is the biggest reason, she is pushing for more safety measures as soon as possible.

"We really need a traffic light here to have more control and no accidents," Bryan resident Esther Jossa said.

Eventually traffic signals will be placed at both the east and west intersections of Coulter Drive and William J. Bryan Parkway.

The City of Bryan's Traffic and Transportation Department doesn't know when construction will begin, but says the entire project could cost up to $300,000.

"It's a incremental process and accidents are definitely unfortunate and we want to look at what's causing those and we want to be sure if it's a certain type of accident that can be corrected by a signal, then yes we will pursue it quicker," says Picha.

This is a bad intersection. Isn't this the place where the poor Bryan Police motorcycle cop was almost squashed?

this is all about bad drivers and yes, Bryan PD needs to start enforcing the speed limit........Its no ones fault but drivers. This does not warrant a traffic light expense.....Totally crazy. Also two speed bumps at each cross intersection of stop who maybe slow these stop and run cars some too. The lane facing the pool does not need to be two lane turn, people turn and block view, etc....

I really don't think people traveling on WJB should have to stop for Coulter. WJB is simply a too large of a road with more than enough redlights through town. I do think that a left turn lane on the west bound side would be a far better suggestion. More importantly, while we are working on WJB.. something really needs to be done about the intersection with Villa Maria. Only one direction can go at a time and this leads to a major trafic jam @ 4 - 6pm. We do not need two left turn lanes on to Villa Maria.
