SAN ANTONIO -- A former Prairie View A&M cheerleader has died after she was paralyzed when her teammates dropped her while performing a stunt.
Officials say 24-year-old Bethany Norwood died Tuesday, likely from complications related to her injuries. She was paralyzed in 2004 when her teammates failed to catch her after tossing her in the air. She landed on her head, breaking her neck in six places and leaving her paralyzed from the neck down.
She died at a suburban San Antonio hospital. A spokesman for the Bexar County medical examiner said the office plans to rule on a cause of death Tuesday or Wednesday.
