As Texas A&M President Robert Gates prepares to become the nation's next defense secretary, A&M System regents are preparing to move on, as well.

Regents are expected to meet Monday and name an interim president for Texas A&M.

Gates' final action as A&M president was to present diplomas at fall commencement this weekend. He is to be sworn in tomorrow as defense secretary, succeeding Donald Rumsfeld.

A&M System regents meet at 3:30 p.m., Monday, in a telephone conference call.

They will immediately go into executive session to consider an interim president.
