Midland police say a three-month-old baby was left unattended in a shopping cart for about an hour when her parents accidentally left her behind.
Police Sergeant Alfredo Grimaldo says shoppers noticed the abandoned baby at a Toys "R" Us store.
He tells the Midland Reporter-Telegram that the baby was not abandoned but was accidentally overlooked.
He says family members had split up, with some heading home and others shopping. When the groups arrived home in separate cars they realized nobody had the baby.
Police spokeswoman Tina Jauz says Child Protective Services is looking into the case.
