Texas A&M's faculty senate has overwhelmingly denounced the A&M System chancellor.
At Tuesday afternoon's meeting, the senate voted 55-9 in favor of a resolution of no confidence in Mike McKinney.
The resolution states the principles guiding A&M are on the verge of collapse due to "shortsighted and irresponsible behavior at the highest levels of the System administration."
The faculty has been highly critical of the handling of now-former President Elsa Murano, including McKinney's performance assessment in which he rated Murano low in a number of leadership categories.
Murano resigned June 15, weeks after the assessment's release, saying it was best for the university if she stepped aside. Her presidency was among the shortest in A&M history.
The senate also asked that the Board of Regents hold off on developing shared services plans until a new president is chosen, this coming in a separate resolution. Regents have charged all universities in the System with finding ways to cut cost, including sharing services with each other and the System itself.
The chairman of the board, Morris Foster, said he hoped A&M would have a new president in six months. R. Bowen Loftin is serving as the interim, and has already charged leaders on the College Station campus to trim $20 million from the budget.

McKinney has staff at the Office of Technology Commercialization, namely Guy Dietrich, who is a close friend of Perry. Guy and has staff routinely try to strike deals with companies and faculty members and leave the University administration out of the communication loop. One such deal, Lexicon Genetics went south and lost a lot of money. Guy D. tried to put the $100K write off of that company on the University’s tab and is still trying to do so. The Chancellor also hired Brett Giroir as the Vice Chancellor for Research. This is who he and the board were wanting for the VPR position. I can’t imagine what he makes. Giroir is genuinely trying to do a some good things, but this position was not created before and therefore is an added cost to the TAMU System. I can’t imagine what Guy D. and the whole OTC make. Guy has caused more headaches by trying to broker horrible deals on behalf of the University when he has no right to and then put the tab on TAMU when it goes bad. Guy D., McKinney

"Faculty Senate"? "Faculty Senate"? HA HA HA HA! That is the funniest thing I have ever heard in my life! The employer/employee relationship is not a democracy. These losers need to pack their bags and go to t.u.

What is going on at TAMU?? With all of the cuts, the poor staff is not getting barely any raises this year. And what is going on with the Athletic dept? With all of the money that they have WASTED on worthless coaches over the past few year, it is now wonder that they are millions of dollars in defict and now are getting rid of staff! There is so much waste at this university, that if they would just get rid of some of the new VPs (that make unreal salaries)they could give all of the much deserving staff at least a 3 percent raise which they deserve! It is a shame what is going on there! The staff works so hard and they deserve to be rewared.. Please Dr McKinney, if you want to rebuild your reputation, take care of the ones that actually work at the university and get rid of the dead weight!
