The construction project, that will eventually widen FM 60 from a two lane highway to a four lane highway with emergency shoulders, is scheduled to begin soon.

The project which stretches west towards Snook has been in the works for 15 years, and now it will save twice that amount of jobs.

"If we wouldn't have gotten this project in late April, we would have been laying off approximately twenty people," says Big Creek Construction Assistant Director, Wade Miller.

The project not only saved 20 jobs, but filled another 20 positions. Alan Duesterhoft has worked on several construction jobs, and is excited to know he has job security over the next two years on the FM 60 project.

"I've been doing this for 30 years. I have been building roads for 30 years. It's been slow times, it's been good times and we just do our best," says Big Creek Construction employee, Alan Duesterhoft.

The FM 60 project costs $7.5 million, and is the first project in the state to receive stimulus funding from the American Recovery Reinvestment Act, which passed in February. Burleson County Judge Mike Sutherland says widening FM 60 will make the road safer for all drivers. It's a project Duesterhoft is proud to be a part of, because now he has the chance to be close to his seven grandchildren.

"They're happy. They're happy. They love their pawpaw too and they like to see him working," says Duesterhoft.

At least now his grandchildren will have the chance to see him work for the next two years on the FM 60 project.

The FM 60 project is one of eight planned throughout the Brazos Valley including construction at the Barron Road exchange, resurfacing of Highway 21, and 19 new fuel efficient buses for Brazos Transit Authority.

Yes. Lets crow about 20 jobs saved but, not say a word about the other 400,000 lost in June.Let's not discuss how many more jobs will be lost through "cap and trade". This administration is a farce.

Why don't they do anything about the far east end of FM 60, which so desperately needs a turning lane?!

So, let me try and put this together... 19 new "fuel efficient" buses that will replace older buses, a 7.5 million dollar project that saved 20 jobs and gave 20 more work that will last one year (then where do those people go?), Barron Road exchange (hope Big Creek gets that job to save the 40 jobs when Hwy 60 is complete), and Hwy 21 resurfacing (hopefully thats a milling as well, so dump truck drivers can keep busy). I am glad a few people got jobs and some kept jobs, but this is only a short term fix... when is this NEW ADMINISTRATION going to give us a long term solution. They need to quit bailing out the homeowners that overextended their credit, automakers who failed to make fuel efficient cars when oil was way over $100/barrel and the banks who loaned too much money to unqualified people. This stimulus package will only delay the rock bottom fall by a few years, thus lengthening our recession that long. Obama and his team better think smarter and work harder to fix this.
