Congressman Chet Edwards was in the area Tuesday, and sat down with News 3 to discuss a number of issues that affect the Brazos Valley and the nation.
On Brazos Valley This Morning Tuesday, Edwards (D-District 17) talked about the FM 60 road work that began near Snook, the first project in Texas to utilize federal stimulus money. He also touched on the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center based at Texas A&M, a program that has gotten funding approved in the House and awaits Senate and presidential approval.
Rep. Edwards also talked about the recent approval of funds for the 420th Engineer Brigade to build a new facility.
On Brazos Valley This Morning and later in the day in a second interview with News 3, Edwards said he would not support a "nationalized or socialized health care system where doctors and nurses and hospitals are government employees. I won't support a single payer plan that's as close to socialized medicine as you possibly could."
Edwards did say reform was needed to reduce what he said could be crippling costs for families.
Among other topics, the congressman talked about his "no" vote for the Cap & Trade energy bill that passed the House, as well as the turmoil at his alma mater, Texas A&M. Click on the video clips above to hear the complete interviews.

I am worried about the "bait and switch" tactics that I have seen being used by this administration. I believe they will tell us anything to get something passed, and then change it to what they want and say "Sorry, folks." I fear we are moving toward socialism, no matter what well-meaning folks like you may say or think. I do not trust this administration whatsoever and have not seen any reason to do so. Please, please do not take us one step closer to socialism and give us a healthcare system that must be rationed. I see where many fixes and improvements can take place in Medicare and Medicaid and tort reform without throwing 80% of us who are happy with what we've got "out with the bath water." You don't trash a system where 80% of the people are happy and make us all miserable just because some people have CHOSEN not to buy health insurance. Help the poor, yes, but these people who just choose to be uninsured, let them. Govt cannot be all things to all people. Thank you.
Obama has contriducted himself re single-payer healthcare, publicly. Which way will his support fall? He is a liar and a cheat. Are you?
If we are going to change the healthcare program, I believe that all constituents should receive the same health care program that members of Congress do. That is a simple idea. I do not believe that any such change should be voted on prior to it being read and understood by all parties concerned.
