The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says the serial killer case is closed.

Reggie Lloyd, Director S.C. Law Enforcement Division told reporters Monday night he is angry with the fact that a serial killer with a lengthy wrap sheet was released back onto the streets.

Lloyd says accused serial killer Patrick Burris has a wrap sheet that is more than 25 pages long and he committed crimes in a number of states.

The suspect, Patrick Tracy Burris, 42, was fatally wounded Monday
by a Gaston County, North Carolina police officer who was responding
to a burglary call. Officials say ballistics linked Burris to the murders of
five people in Gaffney, South Carolina.

Police say Burris's killing spree began June 27 with the murder of Kline Cash.

On July 1, Gena Linder Parker and her mother Hazel Linder became the second and third victims.

The following day, Stephen Tyler was killed at his business. Tyler's daughter Abby, 15, was also shot. Abby Tyler died from her wounds, July 4.

The weapon found during the Gaston County burglary investigation is the same weapon used during the multiple murders in Gaffney. The vehicle found in North Carolina also fits the description provided to police by a witness.

Investigators say they found items belonging to the first victim Cline Cash.

Burris has committed crimes in many states and at the time of his death was wanted for being a habitual felon.

He was unpredictable. He was scary. He was weird," said Neil Dolan, deputy director of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Ballistics tests showed Burris's gun matched the one that killed residents in and around Gaffney over six days last week, SLED Chief Reggie Lloyd said. Burris had a long rap sheet filled with convictions for larceny, forgery and breaking and entering in states across the Southeast, including Florida, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. He had been paroled from a North Carolina prison in April after serving almost eight years. "Look at this," Lloyd said, waving a stapled copy of Burris' criminal record. "This is like 25 pages. At some point the criminal justice system is going to need to explain why this suspect was out on the street." yet somehow this man still was able to get his hands on a gun, is that the kind of gun control you want?
