A Texas prison guard charged in the shooting death of his younger brother has resigned as a corrections officer.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Office said Justin Gregory Raner, 22, of Bullard remained in jail Thursday in lieu of $1 million bail.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark told the Longview News-Journal that Raner, a guard at the Hodge Unit in Rusk since mid-2008, resigned Wednesday.

Raner is charged with murder over the killing of Jeremy Neal Raner, 19, whose body was found Saturday in a hayfield.

Investigators believe the siblings had argued, but declined to release other details.
