Edwards Chosen to Chair Powerful Subcommittee

One congressman was unusually silent about his return to Capitol Hill for the opening of the 110th Congress.

Chet Edwards (D-District 17) will be under-going larynx surgery in the coming days, so doctors have told him he cannot speak in order to rest his throat.

Lucky for him, Edwards won't have to say the name of the subcommittee he will now be chairing, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee. The group has jurisdiction over Pentagon construction projects on military installations, as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Edwards wrote that he would continue to aggressively fight for those who have defended the nation.
