It was only his second day on the job, but a Navasota volunteer firefighter has already saved a woman's life.
A fire broke out just before 9:00 a.m. Friday morning at a mobile home on Highway 105 just east of Navasota, according to Navasota fire officials.
Eddie Parrott, a Houston firefighter and volunteer firefighter in Navasota, rushed into the burning home and rescued 59-year-old Eugene Allen.
Allen, a grandmother, was taken to the College Station Medical Center and then transported to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, where she was listed in serious condition Friday evening.
Although Parrott is a 14 year veteran with the Houston Fire Department, Friday was only Parrott's second day on the job with the Navasota Fire Department.
"His training and quick thinking allowed his heroic duty to avoid a possible fatal situation at this tragic house fire, " said Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials said it does not appear to be suspicious.
