The roads may be getting treacherous, but authorities say weather is not to blame for a fatal accident south of Hearne Monday.
DPS reports one person was killed and six were transported to St. Joseph with various injuries, some serious.
Officials say an SUV travelling south was following a pick-up too closely, and ended up rear ending the truck. The SUV and its five occupants spun into the northbound lanes and slammed into the driver's side of a black car with two occupants.
The driver of the car was killed instantly. The name of the victim, who is 20-years-old from Katy, is not being released pending family notification.
The conditions of the other people involved are unknown at this time.
Highway 6 is moving again after being shutdown during the accident.
