District 17's voice in the US Congress was under repaired Monday morning.
Congressman Chet Edwards had a successful two-hour surgery to remove a benign polyp from his larynx. In a statement, Edwards said he felt fine, and was grateful for support from well-wishers.
“I especially want to thank nine year-old Erin Buenger, a special friend of mine in College Station who is fighting brain cancer and has written me an e-mail every day for the last two weeks because she was concerned about my operation," Edwards wrote in that statement. "Her thoughtfulness and personal courage are a constant inspiration to me.”
Edwards will not be allowed to speak for two weeks, but a complete recovery is expected. He will return to work Tuesday.
