Town hall meetings across the U.S. are drawing outspoken debate on healthcare. As senators and congressmen head home during the August recess, some BCS residents are upset because they would like to have a public, face to face meeting with their congressman, but the congressman has other plans.

News Three spoke with all five congressmen in our viewing area.

Representatives Kevin Brady (R) Dist 8., John Carter (R) Dist. 31, and Joe Barton (R) Dist. 6, all have dates, times and locations of their public town hall forums.

A spokesperson for Representative Michael McCaul's (R) Dist. 10, tells News Three McCaul's plans are not finalized, but the congressman plans to hold a town hall meeting.

However, Rep. Chet Edwards (D) Dist. 17, who represents most of the Brazos Valley population said he plans to listen to constituents, but over the phone.

"We are hoping to do something even better than one or two town hall meetings, we're hoping later this month to have a telephone town hall conference with people in all 12 counties in our district. That would allow people from the south end to the north end of our district to participate, ask questions, let me update em on what we think are going to be the final bills," said Edwards.

Some internet savvy voters who say they feel slighted by not being able to speak with Edwards as a group, in public, are trying to change Edwards' mind.

They're using sites like mybcs.com and facebook to organize a rally Monday, in front of Edwards' Bryan office.

"You can sit on one side of a telephone and listen and zone out a little bit, but our country was founded on town hall meetings. The founding fathers weren't able to get away from it, they stood there and answered to their constituents, the happy ones, the angry ones and they listened to them," said Brent Volk, a College Station resident, and Texas A&M PhD candidate.

Volk said he contacted both the republican and democrat parties in Brazos County to attend the rally, which is being held Monday at noon. Volk's facebook group is also asking ralliers to be peaceful, polite, and patriotic.

Looks as though this could be an end to a lot of the terms in Congressmen/women in this country. Start with Pelosi and work down.

Commit the Bill of Rights-First Amendment to memory-"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." From the Texas Declaration of Independence-"When a government has ceased to protect the lives, liberty and property of the people, from whom its legitimate powers are derived, and for the advancement of whose happiness it was instituted, and so far from being a guarantee for the enjoyment of those inestimable and inalienable rights, becomes an instrument in the hands of evil rulers for their oppression." We love this country-but will not have our rights denied.

If you want a meeting with Chet you will have to go to his house, and go in the bedroom closet. I am sure that is where he will be hiding for the next month. How about a Chet recall.
