Scattered areas of rain & a few thunderstorms are moving across the Brazos Valley this afternoon. Later today & into the evening hours, while the coverage is expected to remain low (20%) -- should a thunderstorm develop, it could become severe. Large hail & damaging winds are the main concern -- however an isolated tornado threat cannot be ignored. Strong thunderstorms are possible overnight & early Monday morning, as well (50%).
As the search continues for the next Bryan Police Chief, the city now has to find an interim replacement for Mike Strope.
Strope officially retired last July, but agreed to stay on until a permanent replacement could be found.
Now Strope has informed the city he will fully retire as of February 25, leaving Bryan city officials looking for a temporary replacement.
So far, no candidate has been identified.
A statement issued by the city says:
"While the City of Bryan works toward finding a full-time chief for the Bryan Police Department, it is also searching for an interim replacement for Michael Strope.
Chief Strope announced his retirement in July 2006, but agreed to stay in the position on a part-time basis until his replacement was hired. Strope now says other commitments require him to fully retire effective Feb. 25.
Bryan City Manager David Watkins has not decided on an interim chief, and he indicates there is no internal or external candidate who he is leaning toward at this time."
