Super Bowl Drives TV Sales

The Super Bowl and a big television go hand and hand, like baseball and peanuts, and it seems the trend to buy a big screen before the big game is still going strong this year.

Since the Super Bowl is the most-watched television event of the year, according to the Consumer Electronics Association, it's a driver of new television purchases.

"They talk about what's going to make the field look the best so we take them to the most vivid rich pictures," Cody Smith with Best Buy said.

According to the College Station Best Buy, the Super Bowl is also a driver of excessive TV returns after the game.

Best Buy says they do accept the returns.

"It's an alarm when we see a group of guys come in from the corps that chip in their money and don't buy anything else," Smith said. "We say oh no we know what's going to happen. Unfortunately according to our SOP (standard operating procedure) they're free to bring it back."

If equipment is missing Best Buy does charge a restocking fee of about 15 percent of the initial purchase.
But it's a charge that probably won't keep people away.

"If I could just borrow it for the Super Bowl that would be cool," Texas A&M student Eric Steglich said.

And if you can't make it to Miami this year, at least it will feel like you're part of the Super Bowl crowd.
A crowd that will stretch from Miami to households across the United States and beyond.

Super Bowl 41 with the Bears and Colts kicks off Sunday at about 5:25 p.m.
