Tax Free Weekend doesn't end until midnight Sunday. Parking lots at Brazos Valley retailers have been bumper to bumper and the atmosphere inside hasn't been much different. News 3 caught up with shoppers at the Bryan Target around 7 p.m. Saturday, and found parking spaces and calmer crowds on the school supply aisle. However, that wasn't the case around 5 p.m. when we found traffic jams in the parking lot. The store's manager said the tax free weekend helped drive shoppers in and shoppers said the mostly no taxed items drove them to shop.
"Especially when we have so many things that we have to get for her to move into college with every little bit helps so we're excited to get the savings," said shopper, Luann Turley.
News 3 asked Turley and several other shoppers if the crowds were worth the savings. After a little number crunching News 3 found that every $100 spent during tax freee weekend equals an $8 savings.
It only applies though if you're shopping in Texas where the sales tax is 8.25 percent. So is the $8 worth the crowds? A Leona, TX shopper seemed to think so.
"It has its ups and downs and you;ve got the lines and if you don't mind wasting a little bit of time with that you can save quite a bit of money," shopper Angela Harris.
Whether they planned to shop this tax free weekend or it just happened to work out that way. Most shoppers also agreed no matter how small any amount of savings is appreciated.
