Three to 12 million doses of the two series H1N1 vaccination will begin distribution across Texas in mid-October, according to The Brazos County Health Department. Every week after the initial distribution, another 750,000 to 3 million doses will go out as needed. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services will determine how many of those doses of the H1N1 vaccination will come to the Brazos Valley based on population. The Brazos County Health Department says they will allow people from surrounding counties to receive the vaccinations at their immunization clinic.

The CDC has a national priority list which strongly recommends pregnant women, health care workers, and anyone 6 months to 24-years-old get vaccinated. Vaccinations are also recommended for people 25 and older with chronic conditions, although they are not part of the high priority list. The number of H1N1 cases reported to the CDC since this spring doesn't reflect a large amount of the elderly population contracting H1N1.

Seasonal flu vaccinations will be available at the Brazos County Health Department September 8.

The Texas Pandemic Influenza Regional Conference is scheduled August 26 in Houston. State and local health officials; city and county officials; emergency management coordinators; clinicians; hospital personnel; school, college and university officials; business and community leaders; nonprofit organizations; and professional associations have been invited to attend. Attendee's will discuss the recent novel H1N1 flu outbreak and discuss future preparedness plans.
