No doubt every person at the Brazos Center Wednesday night had a different opinion on health care reform and the Chet Edwards town hall meeting. Here's what a few attendees told News Three after the meeting:

"I have gone from opposing it to not understanding it, to possibly supporting it," said Carol Cole, a College Station resident.

When asked what his feelings on H.B. 3200 were going into the meeting, Roger Fay, of Bryan, said "I think they ought to can it right away." When asked how he felt about the bill after the town hall, he replied "they oughta can it right away."

"I wish he (Chet Edwards) would take a stance on the public option. He was a bit wishy washy and I would really like to know how he would vote on that," said Caitlin Collins, a College Station resident.

"I thought it took a lot of guts to come and do this. I thought he handled himself in a very professional and gentlemanly manner," said Fay.

"I felt like he knew what he wanted to say and he's very adept at receiving questions and turning it into what he wanted to say," said Tim Konderla, of Bryan.

"He's coming at it from a very pragmatic perspective and a very moderate point of view and while there was definitely emotion on both sides, he's speaking to the middle," said Collins.

"There needs to be a final bill before we have all this hullabaloo," said Cole. "Intelligent people are gonna want to know what is the final bill, I wanna read it, I wanna understand it and then put pressure on our elected representatives to vote one way or the other."

"What I leave here with is a very healthy respect of the democratic system we have here in the United States," said Konderla.

with all the information being available about the sorry state of American health care, there are still those who think nothing needs to be done and that government needs to get out of health care all together and let the market place work to bring down costs. Fortunantly those people, while vocal, are in the minority. If the government suddendly stopped Medicare, as some town hall meeting participants cheered for, who do these people think will sell them health insurance when they are 60 and probebly need it most? These people are either very wealthy, very stupid, or if both, they must have inherited their wealth.

My small business owner Tim would certainly not agree on the High Quality of Healthcare today. Tim never drank or smoked & had perfect health until he had cancer some years back. Luckily, the cancer went away before Tim could get treatment. Unluckily, Tim's insurance company dropped him & other insurance companies refused him because of his pre-existing condition. The few insurance companies that would cover Tim wanted over $1,000 a month as a premium. Unable to afford that outrageous amount (like most Americans), Tim became uninsured. Tim just had TWO tests that showed the cancer is back. THOSE TWO TESTS COST $9,000!! Now, that is the great Health Care we have today, and that is ridiculous! Tim will pay for treatment out of his own pocket. He & his family will be penniless & bankrupt. When his money runs out, his treatment will end, even if he needs more. Yet, insurance CEOs make millions to show insurance companies how to make a profit at the expense of the insured. Tragic!!!

"While you may not think this affects you personally, public health problems like the spread of diseases like H1N1 virus will be exacerbated." Oh, no, I KNOW it WILL affect me personally, because I WILL HAVE TO FOOT THEIR HOSPITAL BILLS!!!! I understand the logic of allowing EVERYBODY to be treated for contagious diseases, but I DON'T understand Chet's dogged insistence that "nonresident aliens" "NOT be covered" by the Premium payment requirements. I have plenty of "compassion", but it doesn't extend to rewarding everybody who makes it past border patrol with free medical care. Course, I'm sure Chet sees it as a vast pool of folks who he can count on to vote for him early and often under multiple names...
