A year-long project that will widen a portion of East 29th Street in Bryan got underway Monday.
The Widening Project is a $2.3 million effort enhancing 29th from Villa Maria Road to Garden Lane.
The work will be performed in three phases by Brazos Valley Services:
(February 2007 - August 2007)
Barricade north lanes of 29th Street between Villa Maria Road and Garden Lane
Install water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer lines
Install temporary signal light at Villa Maria Road
Reconstruct the roadway
(August 2007 - January 2008)
Switch: Barricade south lanes of 29th Street between Villa Maria Road and Garden Lane
Install water line
Install six-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of 29th
(January 2008 - March 2008)
Seal-coat and asphalt overlay 29th Street all the way to Texas Avenue, near downtown
Install permanent signals at Villa Maria Road and Joseph Drive
When completed, the Villa Maria Road/East 29th Street intersection will feature improved signal lights and a right-turn lane from westbound Villa Maria to northbound 29th.
Skrivanek Drive will receive a cul-de-sac at 29th Street, reducing the amount of through-traffic entering the neighborhood.
During construction, access into and out of Blinn College via East 29th Street may be limited.
Drivers are encouraged to use the Villa Maria Road and East 25th Street entrances and exits whenever possible.
Throughout the project, the speed limit in construction areas will be reduced to 25 mph.
