Here's how local schools are handling President Obama's September 8th address to school children.
All students in Madisonville and Calvert will have an opportunity to watch the Obama address live. MCISD Superintendent Keith Smith said he doesn't expect the speech to last very long, or interrupt the district's original plans for the day. Calvert Superintendent K.L. Graholski said Calvert is planning on incorporating the speech as part of the day's classroom activities. Both districts will provide an alternative place for children whose parents don't want them to view the speech.
Normangee Superintendent Jerry Burger said the speech will air during the district's lunch time, and the library will be open for those who want to watch the speech during lunch. The district will also make hard copies available to staff and students.
Brazos Christian won't show the speech in class, but Headmaster Robert Armstrong said students may go home to watch it with parents' permission.
The speech will be shown at government teachers' discretion, at Allen Academy.
Hearne, Franklin, Huntsville, Caldwell and Brenham schools will record the speech and make hard copies available later.
Kids in College Station schools will watch the speech live if they are in a social studies class at the time. The same goes for middle and high schoolers in Bryan. Parents in both districts may choose to have their children not watch the speech.
Navasota ISD will show the address during social studies classes the day of the speech, and replay it in social studies classes who missed it, the following day. The district will not be following lesson plans distributed by the U.S. Department of Education or engage students in political discussions before or after the address.
KBTX will also provide a link to the president's speech on kbtx.com.

I don't see anything wrong with President Obama speaking to school aged children, where was the haters when teachers gave out assignments for children to track electoral votes state by state on election night for a grade, my children loved the process of how the president is elected and they supported Obama 100% we even travled to here him speak. We need to getting upset over what the president is doing. He was elected and he is our president and there is nothing you can do about it now so shut up and let the man do his job. And for those worried about him running up more debt, you wasn't complaining when Bush was digging this hole of debt and told you to jump in (cause you was benifiting from it) now you blaming Obama cause he can't get you out of it fast enough. Don't blame Obama he didn't create it he just has to clean it up. So haters fall back.
I am no fan of Obama, but I have no concerns with the president speaking to my children about the IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION. I remember watching presidential addresses when I was in school. What did concern me was the government actually distributing a lesson plan to go along with his speech and I’m glad that NISD will not be following this plan. It also bothers me that so many people are so quick to say if you don’t let you kids watch you’re a raciest. If this is the case I guess everyone that doesn’t think the way you do is a raciest and that seems very SOCIALIST to me. If Obama does speak of anything political I hope he explains to may children why they will get stuck with the bill he is running up today, or why he and the liberal socialist congress is striping them of all the freedoms their forefathers fought and died for.
The beauty of this - the parents that see nothing wrong with their children listening to Obama's agenda have kids that will probably not pay attention to what he really is saying. The apple really does not fall far from the tree.
