Rudder High School's varsity volleyball team had to substitute players during Tuesday's game after several students on the team became ill with the flu. Bryan I-S-D says five to six students on Rudder High School's varsity volleyball team are sick with the flu or have flu-like symptoms. The school district says those students doctor's have told the students they have the Type A flu strain, which may, or may not be H1N1. The H1N1 virus has not been confirmed as the illness those students have contracted. As parents concerns about their child's health grow the uncertainty of the outbreak is forcing school officials to take a wait-and-see approach.
"Just to have some students sick with the flu and flu like illnesses is not necessarily a reason to notify parents in the district. I think its understood again that we're (sic) gonna have colds and flu it's that time of year," said Bryan Independent School District spokesperson, Sandy Farris.
More than 15-thousand letters will go home to parents over the coming days. The letters include precautions to take during flu season and how to recognize the illness.

Rather than blaming the ball or the cups used, I would sincerely recommend the players to get vaccinated. It is not even late for this year since we are in the dawn of winter. Flu symptoms have been showing up there and here. Since this year's flu shot covers H1N1, H3N2 and Brisbane virus, can we all get vaccinated?
by the way they do use cups! the ball is the germ spreader...
Looks like it's time to stop sharing water bottles. If all teams would move from water bottles to cups they could stop spreading the flu around the teams.
