Brazos Valley Burn Bans: The following counties are under a Burn Ban: Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Washington
New Executive Director Bill Kelly was officially welcomed Thursday by the Brazos Valley Mental Health Mental Retardation Center.
For the past 15 years, Kelly has served at two of the other MHMR centers within the state of Texas. Under his direction, the center in Victoria saw a major decreases in administrative costs.
Kelly says he obtained $275,000 through grants for capital improvement projects, including the implementation of a tele-medicine system created to serve people in rural counties.
While there, he was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. Kelly got that award for eight consecutive years.
And while the center here has recently suffered from cutbacks in budget and staff, he is determined to see success here as well.
"Because of legislation and funding cuts, we can't depend on them all the time for money," said Kelly. "We need to go after other funds. We're going to get aggressive towards grants and foundation dollars."
Kelly added he is eager to build upon the great foundations already established at the Bryan MHMR in the coming months.
