A local lawman is ready to ride off into the sunset.
Caldwell Police Chief Virgil Hurt has decided to retire at the end of the month. Hurt has been the city's top police officer for a little more than eight years. His career in law enforcement spans more than 30 years.
As he prepares to step down, Hurt says the residents of Caldwell should be proud of their police department.
"We have a well-trained professional police department especially for a town our size," Hurt said.
The chief's last day on the job will be March 31.
