He was entrusted with teaching five and six-year-olds in Navasota for several years. Now, he's accused of violating that trust.
34-year-old Roberto Andaverde was arrested last week and charged with indecency with a child; days later the news is reaching parents.
Officials from the Navasota Independent School District said they heard of the allegations on Thursday and placed Andaverde on administrative leave. Since then, they say they've received additional information, and Andaverde will not be coming back.
Navasota I.S.D. Interim Superintendent Rory Gesch said home visits to the families of kids in Andaverde's class weren't made until this week and no other communication was sent out.
Navasota Police said they began investigating Thursday and arrested Andaverde on Friday.
"This incident allegedly happened during school hours," said Lt. Jorge DeLaCruz, of the Navasota Police Department.
Andaverde was a bilingual kindergarten teacher who taught in the district for several years. He won over some parents, who said Tuesday that they were sticking by him.
"Her daughter was in the same class, his class, and she didn't, she never had any problems," said Amarita Enriques, speaking through translator Irma Alvarado.
Mother Elvia Garcia's daughter is in Andaverde's class, this year.
"It's like they're planning it against him, she don't (sic) think it's nothing real," said parent Eliva Garcia, speaking through translator Irma Alvarado.
However, not everyone was as supportive.
"They really need to do a whole lot better background checks to make sure they don't have tendencies towards children," said Angel Garcia, a grandparent with grandchildren in the district.
Navasota Police said they are still investigating and aren't sure if there are other victims or if there will be other charges.
Andaverde remains in the Grimes County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

i think its readiculious if a parents doesnt teach his or her own child to button or zip up his/her pants a teacher is given no other choice but to help child when child does not know how to zip up there pants which can be misinterpretaded by explanations of child to parent...that is why i think parents should be more responsible of teachimg these things to thier children.
To all the people that say he is innocent, didn’t he admit to it? Wasn’t his excuse that he was curious? Is he conspiring against himself? Or do you think this type of behavior is acceptable.
i think that the teacher mr.andaverde is innasent because he was a teacher of my child for a year and was all ways very nice and good to all the childeren and we never had a problem with him. and thats what i think of him
