Big XII, In-State Teams Learn NCAA Tournament Fates

Texas A&M drew a #3 seed from the NCAA selection committee Sunday as the men's basketball tournament bracket was announced. The Aggies will face a #14 seed, Pennsylvania, in the first round LIVE on KBTX News 3 on Thursday.

The Quakers are the Ivy League champions. A&M and Penn will play in the South Region in Lexington, KY. The winner of that game will face the winner of #6 Louisville and #11 Stanford on Saturday in Lexington.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are the top seed in the region. The Memphis Tigers are the #2 seed, and will face a Lonestar State team, North Texas, in the first round.

The Florida Gators, North Carolina Tar Heels, Ohio State and the Kansas Jayhawks all earned #1 seeds in the tournament.

Kansas won the Big XII Tournament in an overtime thriller against the University of Texas Sunday, 88-84. They are the #1 seed in the West Region, and will face the winner of the play-in game between Florida A&M and Niagara.

Texas earned a #4 seed in the East Region, and will face the Aggies...of New Mexico State, a #13 seed. That game will take place Friday in Spokane, WA.

Texas Tech is also in the East Region as a #10 seed. The Red Raiders will face #7 Boston College on Thursday in Winston-Salem, NC

No other Big XII teams were selected for the tournament.

Another Texas A&M System school, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, is in the tournament for the first time ever as a #15 seed. The 26-6 Islanders won the Southland Conference title Sunday, defeating Northwestern State, 81-78, earning an automatic bid. They'll face Big Ten power Wisconsin, the #2 seed in the Midwest Region.
