A cold front will approach the Brazos Valley later today. Isolated areas of rain and thunderstorms could develop along and ahead of that front between mid-afternoon and early evening. Good news: rain & storm activity will be quick moving (1 hour or less). Bad news: a few severe thunderstorms are possible with large hail and strong, damaging winds being the main concern. A brief, isolated tornado threat cannot be ruled out, as well.
Two College Station residents escaped an early morning fire at their home. Around 7 a.m., a fire started at one of the mobile homes in the Oak Forrest Mobile Home Park on Krenek Tap Road.
The College Station Fire Department says when the first unit arrived on scene, the fire was coming from one end of the home. Fire crews were able to get the fire under control and confine the fire damage to just one bedroom. The rest of the mobile home sustained heat and smoke damage.
Both occupants of the mobile home were able to evacuate without injury. The Community Action Response Team is assisting them to find housing. The Fire Marshal's Office determined bedding materials caught fire after a lamp fell on them, as the cause of the mobile home fire.
