A long time media personality in Brenham has died. William Prentice Mearns, the voice of the KWHI's "Country Store" passed away on Tuesday night.
For many years, Mearns served as an announcer and newsman at the Brenham radio station. He spent most of his 30 year media career in radio, but did spend some time as a television newscaster for Brenham-TV Cable News and Northland Cable News.
This past weekend, Mearns suddenly took ill and underwent emergency surgery. He was 50 years old.
Mearns is survived by his wife, Deidra Koucerek Mearns, and their two children. Visitation with the family is from 6-8pm on Thursday at Brenham Memorial Chapel, which is at 2300 Stringer.
A celebration of life will be on Friday. It will be held in the Brenham High School Auditorium, 525 A.H. Ehrig Drive. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to:
