A College Station family of five is dead after a head on collision in Madison County Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened around 5 p.m. on Old San Antonio Road, six miles east of Normangee.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says Amy Wise, 28, of Centerville crossed the center line in her pickup truck and crashed head-on into an SUV. DPS says 41-year-old Ismael Perez and 37-year-old Minerva Perez of College Station died on scene. Their three children 4-year-old Josefina Perez, 5-year-old Celeste Perez, and 7-year-old Jeanette Perez were also killed.
"All my family is very sad because we lost a brother, his wife and their daughters," said Epifania Rivera.
Friday, relatives met at Templo Sulamita in Bryan where the Perez family had been members for over a year. Pastor Henry Hernandez said shortly after the accident he was notified by DPS.
"It was very hard on the whole family, the church family. Especially me and my wife as pastors it hurts a lot," said Pastor Henry Hernandez.
All three Perez children attended Southwood Valley Elementary School in College Station. A school district spokesman said a crisis team made up of counselors, administrators, principals and family facilitators were on the Southwood Valley campus Friday to help children, teachers and parents cope with the tragedy.
After phone calls to parents, counselors informed the children who were in the same classes as the Perez children. Those discussions took place in a Headstart Pre-K class, a Kindergarten class and a 2nd grade class. Parents with children in those specific classroom had the option of being there with their kids or taking their kids home.
"A couple of them did start crying. A couple of parents were there, they (the students) went and climbed in the laps of their parents. One climbed in the lap of a teacher. And so there was some emotion there and then some questions were they going to see them again," said C.S.I.S.D Director of Student Services, Chrissy Hester.
All other students who were not classmates of the Perez siblings were sent home with letters about the tragedy.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, Amy Wise was listed in fair condition at St. Joseph's Regional Health in Bryan Friday. So far in the investigation DPS says they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
DPS says the Perez parents were both wearing seatbelts, however the children were not.
Funeral services for the family have been set for 6 p.m. on Monday at Templo Sulamita Church in Bryan. The Perez family will be buried in Mexico, but the date for those services have not been set. Donations will be accepted at the Templo Sulamita Church and a memorial fund has been set up at First Victoria National Bank.

To the family: You are in my prayers. They are in a much better place now. It breaks my heart to hear this story. I was listening to the Spanish radio station and they were having a fundraiser at the local meatmarket for the family and they broke a record with the money they rasied for the family's funeral. To Amy: You and your family are also in my prayers. I don't know who you are, but I know you are hurting so much right now. I know this because I have been in your position. I was involved in a fatal car accident and I survived but the other driver passed away. I had people blaming me for the accident and saying I had been drinking when in reality, I hadn't had ANY alcohol. At first I let their comments hurt me and bring me down. I also had people threatening to rally up to put me in jail. Only you and God know what really happened so don't let people get you down or let their ugly judgements get to you. Be strong. You will get through this. Get Well Soon..
"Folks. We need help. The families of the Perez family are still here and will be till Friday. We are feeding about 30 adults and as many children at 10 and 5 every day. If this story touches your heart, there is something you can do. Bring some food, cooked or uncooked, by the church. THat is Templo Sulamita, 1707 Groesbeck, Bryan, 77803. Call 979-823-7196 or 979-227-1460 for more information. The families will be here through Friday. Please find it in your heart to act. Remember. "I stand at the door and knock..." This comment was posted on the eagle earlier today and it really touched my heart!!! Please, if there is anything that you can do to help this family out than find it in your hearts to do so!!! I am passing this along to everyone I possibly can and too my church as well...I'm sure with funeral costs and everything else anything anyone could do to help out would be a HUGE blessing!!!
