An investigation is underway in Washington County after a junior high student was killed after being dragged behind her horse.
Authorities say 13-year-old Payton Simmons was riding her horse Saturday evening at her Seeker Road ranch when she somehow ended up being dragged behind sprinting animal.
The girl apparently had a rope tied around her waist while she was riding, though it's unknown exactly why.
Simmons was air-lifted to Hermann Hospital in Houston, but authorities say she was brain-dead when she arrived.
Simmons was in the seventh grade at Brenham Junior High.
