Bryan Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Niles Virus
Mosquitoes collected on October 14, 2009 tested positive for West Nile virus.

The temperatures maybe dropping, but there is still a mosquito problem, and now west niles has been confirmed in Bryan.

Mosquitoes collected on October 14, 2009 tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). These are the first positive mosquitoes collected in Brazos County this year. The mosquitoes were collected by the Agricultural and Environmental Safety Program of Texas AgriLife Extension.

The sampling location was at the intersection of F&B Road and Wellborn in Bryan. Mosquito control personnel with the City of Bryan has been notified of this location.

Please keep in mind that all of Brazos County is positive for WNV.

All Brazos County residents are urged to keep up their defenses and practice the Four D’s:

-Drain standing water around the house, including tires, cans, flowerpots, rain gutters, buckets, wading pools, puddles, etc. Trim grass and shrubs and do not over water lawns and gardens.

-Wear insect repellent containing DEET.

-Stay indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

-Dress in long sleeves and pants when outdoors to prevent bites.
