The State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the fire Sunday night that gutted the main building of Dick Scott Ford in Mexia, causing an estimated $1.5 million in damage.

The building housed the dealership’s sales offices and parts and service departments.

Six cars in the building were also destroyed.

The dealership was open for business Monday, however, and was looking for a building to rent to house its parts and service operations.

The fire broke out at about 9 p.m. Sunday at the 60-year-old dealership at 401 N. Sherman in Mexia.

The first crews on the scene reported that flames were shooting through the roof, the walls were already collapsing and that explosions could be heard from inside the structure.

The scene commander called in tow trucks to pull vehicles away from the building and lot; some of the dealership’s inventory however did sustain damage from the massive fire.

Firefighters from Groesbeck, Wortham, Teague and Lake Mexia also helped fight the flames.

No injuries were reported.

An investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office is expected Tuesday.
