Aggies Arrive Home to Grateful Fans

The Aggie men's basketball team is home from San Antonio after being eliminated from the NCAA tournament Thursday night.

The players and coaches were greeted by dozens of fans at Reed Arena as they arrived in their bus. Once they finished with a team meeting, the team was again given rounds of applause by fans as they headed to their vehicles to go home.

"We really do appreciate it," said Billy Gillispie, the men's head basketball coach, "and I know the players do. As a coach, I do, too. It is a couple days earlier than we wanted to come back, but it's always nice to see those kind of people showing that kind of emotion for your team."

Texas A&M dropped their Sweet 16 game against Memphis Thursday night. The only other time the Aggies had advanced that far in the NCAA tournament was in 1980.

"They gave us an awesome season," said Aggie Holly Larson, "and they definitely deserve our support because they came a long way and they really worked hard."

Another student, Austin Parsons, added, "It's absolutely amazing. I'm really excited for them. They did a great job, and no matter what happens, we'll all love them. They're great."
