Defense Secretary Robert Gates now has even more Aggie spirit in his Pentagon office.
On March 14, Aggie cadets on spring break in Washington, DC were able to present the former Texas A&M president with senior boots (pictured below). In an e-mail to friends, Becky Gates writes that her husband knew the boots were being crafted, but didn't know students would be coming to deliver them.
"The cadets arrived at the Pentagon early enough that they had to stay hidden in their car while Bob greeted an Iraqi official outside the Pentagon," Mrs. Gates wrote, "but they were able to watch the arrival ceremony."
The secretary of defense now has the boots in a glass case in his office, according to Mrs. Gates' e-mail.
"It was a momentous and moving moment," she wrote.
