A 1997 carjacking in San Antonio left an Air Force officer dead and the convicted gunman facing execution tonight.
No late appeals are planned for 28-year-old Vincent Gutierrez.
He was condemned over the abduction and killing of Captain Jose Cobo.
The victim was chief of maintenance training at the Inter-American Air Forces Academy at Lackland Air Force Base.
The Colombia-born Cobo was abducted at gunpoint outside his apartment and forced to the passenger side of his car.
Authorities say Cobo tried to bolt from the vehicle in slow morning rush-hour traffic on San Antonio's busy Interstate 410 Loop. He was shot in the back.
Gutierrez would be the tenth condemned killer in Texas to have his punishment carried out this year.
