The non-profit group Ags for Kyle began their push to re-illuminate the letters outside Kyle Field on October 9. Saturday, the group teamed up with No Freshman Left Behind to sell t-shirts outside Aggieland Outfitters. An agreement between the university and Barnes and Noble prevented the group from selling shirts in front of Koldus on A&M's campus . Organizers say despite the setback, it's worth seeing the cause come to light.

"There's like one good photo of the letters lit up and I love that photo and it's just something to do for the school and I love my school more than anything else," said President of Ags for Kyle, Andrew Pfister.

Ags for Kyle has raised $3500 thus far. They hope to reach their $150,000 goal by the beginning of the 2010 football season.

Wow, the comments on this article are just sad. If you had basic reading comprehension, you would know that A&M is not funding this at all. This is being funded by people who want to see the letters lit. I guess it's a lot easier to be critical of other people trying to fix up something and make it nicer than it is to be constructive. Oh, you say I don't know what all you do to help improve the community? Just like you don't know what else the people contributing to this do to help the community? So, get off your high-horse with the "this money could be put to better use" stuff. Who died and made any of you the granted exalted Judge of Appropriate Expenditures? You're not being forced to pay one cent toward this. Man up and contribute *your* money to the things YOU want to give to, and let other people give *their* money to the causes THEY want to support. Seriously. Buncha' crybabies.

Sorry, Nicole, but I work with Compass every day, and as an "authorized entity" I and many hundreds of people in my field have found that it makes it much more difficult to get the information we need. At a minimum, the work we do takes three times the effort to perform as it did with the old system. There have been ZERO improvements to our productivity -- in fact, it has fallen dramatically for no valid reason. I know Compass very well -- it's a piece of garbage. I wrote better code in my undergraduate CS classes. I haven't talked to anyone outside EIS who thinks that this system is in any way, shape or form, an improvement. The MilWalk plans show it to be both ugly AND historically inaccurate -- not a good combination. If you notice my first comment, I'm not worried about WHO is paying for these four wastes of money, I'm just saying that the leadership of the University, in its time-honored, Peter Principle fashion, is allowing these things to be done on the campus.

Vic: While I agree that the money raised could and should be used to better ends, I have to correct you on a few things: 1) The Military Walk has a great deal of history associated with it. I'll grant you that it's old history, but it's an improvement that will improve the overall look of the heart of campus, and I believe we need that. 2) the giant ring was paid for by the Association of Former Students as part of their renovation. Technically speaking, the Association is a non-profit group separate from the University. Also, renovations like that are generally paid for by targeted fundraising efforts independent of annual donations. 3) The new student information system IS actually an improvement. It increases the security of student information while making it easier for authorized entities to get to the information they need. The fact that you don't see its value tells me you've never been in a position to understand it.
