A longtime Brazos County public official is turning his attention to Austin.

Former Tax Assessor-Collector Gerald "Buddy" Winn announced Monday he'll challenge State Representative Fred Brown for his District 14 seat.

Winn retired in 2007 after nearly 30 years as tax assessor. He was a lifelong Democrat before switching to the Republican party late in his career. That means, Winn will face Brown in the Republican primary if Brown decides to seek a seventh term in office.

Brown was first elected in 1998.

Maybe you all should stop being jelous because he did his job right and start focusing on the real issues. You don't know the man personally obviously just because someone is an important person in town doesn't mean they cut slack to their family. I can say this because my daughter is his great granddaughter. Don't assume things all of the time get to know the facts!! Fred Brown has been in office a long time and if Buddy wants to run after he retired from his one job of 30 years then let the man have a chance. Apparentely none of ya'll could do a good enough job to go for State Representative or even have any where near the experience he does so just get over it and it doesn't matter if he switched his party in the middle of his career look at the people you elected to be in our White House and government period. Most of the people in office have not voted in many elections like they should and have changed their party but that didn't matter to you when you elected them I'm sure.
