When you do a story on Chuck Norris, it's hard to pick a place to start. I mean it's Chuck Norris.
He's the man that took on Bruce Lee in 1973's Return Of The Dragon. In the 80's his movies dedicated to military service endeared him to the armed forces, and his Walker Texas Ranger series made him one of the Lone Star State's biggest treasures.
On Monday, the man himself made a stop at Post Oak Mall to sign his book The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book and fans showed up in droves. Norris first made time to visit the disabled. Each and every one of them received a one on one with Chuck. After that, members of the military were allowed to the front of the autograph line as a thanks for their service to the country.
"It's great the support that he gives us because without it, it would make our deployments that much longer and that much harder and knowing that we have folks back here in the states supporting us makes it that much better," said Jason Roseburgh of the U.S. Army.
"It's very neat to see a celebrity say thanks and show support because I think that helps the public see us in that light too," said Colin Thacher with the U.S. Air Force
Grown men turned into little kids just at the sight of Norris. Some of them literally sang his praises.
"He has been a big influence in my life every since I saw him on TV. He's a big Christian as am I and it's just great what he's doing for the community," said fan Allen Sines.
Everyone in line seemed to have a little Chuck Norris in them and with his fact book in tow, everyone has their particular favorite.
Like, "When Chuck Norris was born, only the doctor cried. Never slap Chuck Norris."
But which is Chuck's favorite fact?
"Now my favorite one is, "Once Chuck Norris was bit by a Cobra and after five excruciating days, the cobra died," joked Norris.
Norris is best known for his stands on freedom, faith, fitness, and family but his Kickstart program is very close to his heart.
"Right now we have 6,500 students, we have 43 schools, and we're hoping to expand it to this area," said Norris.
And yes, each and every fan had their chance to meet the martial arts master. Norris stayed at the mall till 2:45 in the morning to make sure his fans were taken care of.
"I just can't thank them enough and I'm just very blessed," said Norris.
