The future of 911 technology is being worked on right here in the Brazos Valley
The Next Generation 911 Industry Collaboration Event is going on right now over at Texas A&M and it's helping set the standard for future emergency systems.
The National Emergency Number Association is hosting the event and 16 different companies made the trip. They say that in the near future, not only will you be able to call 911, but also text in an emergency and even send video of what is going on at a location.
"The system is now a software based system as compared to the old enhanced 911 system that used physical telephone switches and so on. This is all software that is IP based, so it's very critical for everybody that is going to provide components do so with the appropriate amount of testing to make sure it all fits together and works together," said Roger Hixson with the National Emergency Number Association.
The vendors will be on campus through Friday.
