There's a slight change to the name when you talk about Bryan High School.

The Bryan school board voted Monday evening to rename Bryan High School as Travis B. Bryan Jr High School in honor of the late community leader whose family helped start the city.

The move comes weeks after the Bryan city council renamed the municipal golf course in honor of the Bryan family.

Bryan Jr died in September at the age of 87.

Whats in a name. Well the past not the future. One more reason the city will never see the light and keep drinkin the kool-aid, aka fool-aid. This is the time to take a real role in your kids future and run for school board and get ride of the followers of the fool-aid...

I believe Mr. Travis Bryan was a great man. My mother worked at his bank for many years, and he always treated her and his employees with great respect. BUT... Can we find a better way to honor this man, his family, and the contribution he made to our fine community. I am a proud Bryan High School alumnus. I would not like for my school's name to change. It was bad enough to have to split off, make a new high school, and name it after another family from our community’s past. I would love for the school board to rethink their decision. You might say, “What’s the big deal? It’s just a name!” Bryan High School was not “just” any old high school to me. It was MY school. Changing the name makes the school I grew up in nonexistent in my eyes. I would hope that the Bryan School Board would not take that away from my fellow alumni and me.

I come home for the holidays to see that I arrived for the wrong holiday. Is it the horrors of Halloween? Or is it foolish ways of Aprils Fools? Travis Bryan HS? What the heck is that all about? I first sniffed stupidity when they named newest school after someone known as Rudder (did he ever live or teach in Bryan schools or make that big of an impact on BISD or its children?) Why don't ALL of the past BHS graduates get together and write this school board a letter. Just include two words: NO WAY. Then let us see if they get the point and allow the citizens and the graduates to voice our opinion for them to fix this horrific error in judgment – before they are rightfully voted off the board.
