Tuesday marked the third day of testimony in the trial of Dana Rene Munyon. Prosecutors say Munyon, 46, caused severe head injury to one-year-old Alexis Verzal in April 2008.

Investigators say Munyon was running an unlicensed daycare in her home when Verzal suffered injuries similar to those resulting from Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Munyon told her family and other daycare clients that she was holding Verzal when the child went limp and fell out of her arms, hitting the carpeted floor.

Tuesday Dr. David Hardy spent most of the day on the stand. He treated Verzal at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. He said the little girl's injuries were so serious, she would have died if she had not received medical attention. And it was his opinion the brain injuries were a result of force trauma to the head.

Investigators with the Brazos County Sheriff's Office and Child Protective Services said they were told Verzal suffered serious injuries. The CPS investigator said one doctor who treated Verzal told him he was not comfortable placing a time line on the toddler's injuries.

Testimony resumes Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the 272nd District Court.
