There are not a whole lot of things that have more of a convenience store cult following than a Slurpee and it's just a matter of time before it makes its way back to Bryan-College Station.

7-Eleven announced last week that it had purchased 143 retail sites from C. L. Thomas Inc. of Victoria, Texas.

Two of those stores are right here in Bryan/College Station.

"7-Eleven is on an accelerated growth plan. Over the past several years, we've been developing more stores in the markets where we are successful and we are acquiring stores in those same markets. Now we're branching out," said Margaret Chabris, Director of Corporate Communications for 7-Eleven, Inc.

The Speedy Stop located at the corner of Highway 21 and Highway 6 along with The Speedy Stop at the corner of Texas Avenue and Harvey Road are the two stores acquired by 7 Eleven.

"What we are doing right now is retraining all the employees for these stores and having them learn the 7-Eleven system. We're also going to be changing the technology in those stores that helps us merchandise," said Chabris.

But don't expect to get a Slurpee anytime soon. While the local locations will start to carry 7-Eleven products, for now, the convenient store is concentrating its rebranding efforts where the majority of the stores acquired are located.

"Our focus is going to be first on the bulk of them in San Antonio," said Chabris.

But with their aggressive expansion plan, 7-Eleven is looking for more stores to build their brand in B/CS.

"Our intent is to look at other opportunities in these areas. Can we build or purchase more stores to have more density in those two geographic areas," said Chabris.

Both of the Speedy Stops acquired by 7-Eleven are currently unable to sell lottery tickets and money orders while the sales transition takes place.
