I remember this like it was yesterday. I was living in college station my kids were in high school. I was awakened at about 3 am by sirens and they were not stopping they just kept coming. I went out on my porch finally they stoppped. The next morning i was on my way to work at about 7am and for some reason i took a different route straight down Texas Ave. and then I saw that horrible sight the stack fallen and many emergency vehicles surrounding the site turned on the radio and heard about the fatalaties as the day went on it just got worst. I remember thinking oh my god if this was 2 years later it could have been my son. This tragedy has had such an impact on me I still haven't been to the memorial but plan to go sometime this month.

I was at home, where I first saw and heard helicopters hovering over the bonfire site. I happened to be up and awake and saw this from my window not knowing what was going on, but felt a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I live a mile away from the old bonfire site. it was so surreal. I will never forget that early morning 2:45 a.m. My Aggie Family was suffering, along with me later in the day as facts unfolded about our Aggie familyl

Blessedly, a very dear friend invited me to join her and her 2 daughters lastnight at Reed for the memorial. I wanted to go but not by myself. Ten years ago today I was working for the Student Counseling Service and spent the better part of the day at the stack with my boss. We were assigned to one of the families. I will never forget having to tell that family that their daughter had been removed from the stack and that she did not make it...the hardest thing I think I have ever had to do. Shortly before dark that evening we made our way to her dorm and told her roommate. This day has never been the same for me since. For the first time since Nov. 18, 1999 I made the walk to the memorial on my lunch hour today. I'm glad I did it. That trip I took alone. Ten years seems like a long, long time ago yet standing on that site in Jamie's portal...it seems like yesterday.
