HOUSTON (AP) - As part of a plea agreement, a Houston windshield
repairman has admitted he conspired to lie to gun dealers about where more than 300 military-style weapons were headed so they could be smuggled from the U.S. to Mexican drug cartels.
The Houston Chronicle reported Saturday that 26-year-old Christian Garza admitted his role in the conspiracy Friday. His secret plea deal requires him to tell agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives about the trafficking ring that supplied weapons to Mexico's fearsome Zetas drug cartel.
Garza faces up to 10 years in prison. If his information leads to more prosecutions, his prison sentence could be reduced. Sentencing is scheduled in January.
Authorities are seeking three other men who have been charged with Garza.
